NTT DATA Corporation
NTT Software Corporation
NTT DATA Corporation (head office: Koto-ku, Tokyo; president and CEO: Toshiharu Aoki) and NTT Software Corporation (head office: Yokohama-shi, Kanagawa Prefecture; president and CEO: Seishiro Tsuruho) plan to co-promote GET-LMS, South Korea's top-ranked e-learning software package in terms of market share. The joint promotional campaign will be launched August 1, 2002.
Background
E-learning software has entered the spotlight thanks to advances in Internet broadband infrastructure that allow the use of data-intensive audio and video applications.
It is estimated that the Japanese market for e-learning software will be around 100 billion yen in FY 2002 and reach 250 billion yen in scale over the next three years. This is considered to be a market with significant growth potential.
NTT DATA and NTT Software will co-market the Japanese language version of GET-LMS, a software package developed by Mediopia Technology Co., Ltd. of South Korea (See Note 1). GET-LMS commands around 60 percent (the top share in FY 2001) of the South Korean market for e-learning software, and has already been adopted by over 500 educational institutions and corporations in that country. NTT DATA and NTT Software decided to co-market GET-LMS in Japan after determining that it would be the best-suited product for Japan's own e-learning software marketplace.
Framework for Collaboration
NTT DATA sealed a distributor license agreement with Mediopia Technology in July 2002 for the sale of GET-LMS in Japan. The product is slated to go on the Japanese market August 1 under a cooperative arrangement with NTT Software. NTT DATA's business divisions will be engaged primarily in selling and marketing e-learning services to the company's customers, and NTT Software will handle technical support and system customization services with a focus on the provision of e-learning system architectures that harness cutting-edge technology. NTT DATA and NTT Software will strive to boost the effectiveness of their joint sales and marketing drive by sharing customer data.
Corporate employee education divisions and a variety of educational institutions will be targeted by the co-marketing campaign.
As a total solution for e-learning software, NTT Software began marketing its own product, EduCAPRING®, in July 2000. In the future, it plans to market GET-LMS as a component of the EduCAPRING package.
Product Features
In addition to providing an international standard-compliant (See Note 2) e-learning management system as its platform, GET-LMS bundles all the features essential to an e-learning system. These include real-time lecture-styled training features that integrate the broadband delivery of video, audio, and text data; memory functions that allow students to schedule lectures whenever they like; the ability to readily generate content for instructional purposes; and tools that enable instructors to unify the management of student records and performance. What is more, the package can be flexibly tailored to user needs.
GET-LMS incorporates a better-rounded set of communications features than do rival e-learning software packages. Mail scheduling is a standard feature, and the communications tools can be utilized to strengthen student-teacher bonds and promote improved course registration frequency. Furthermore, the product is highly scalable. Users can add and customize special features and easily integrate GET-LMS into their own internal corporate systems.
Package Configurations
- Versions available for the following operating systems: Unix, Linux, Windows
- Standard configuration accommodates up to two servers (Web server, database server) and 20,000 clients.
- Can be delivered on pre-installed servers as an all-in-one package.
Coming Developments
Starting with their GET-LMS co-marketing venture, NTT DATA and NTT Software plan to reinforce their framework for collaboration in the e-learning software business field and work together to aggressively market and sell new systems and solutions.
GET-LMS package pricing will range from 3 million yen to 5 million yen. Together, NTT DATA and NTT Software expect to achieve total product sales of 5 billion yen in the next three years.
